Using funds raised at both past pupil and public events, the Rampant Lions Club have been able to complete the following projects and support Howick High School to ensure that we have a school we can be proud of.

If you are able to assist with any of our future projects in any way (funding, donation of material or your time), we would be most grateful. Please contact us at or fax 086 559 7580.

Staff Room

Wall mounted fans were installed in the staff room which became unbearably hot during the summer season.

Cricket Side Screens
The cricket side screens on the Ken Kyte Field were replaced with new mobile screens.  Thanks go to Alan Adams of Midlands Steel and Weld for his contribution to this project.

Tennis Courts
The removal of tree roots which were lifting the surface of the tennis courts was generously aided by:

  • Mr Neville Woodley of Midlands Plant Hire – loan of a ‘ditch-witch’ machine to dig trenches;
  • Messrs Fardella of Howick F&F Build It – donation of fibreglass sheeting

Tarring of Quadrangles
Portions of the quadrangles, which often flood and become muddy, have been resurfaced.  This was made possible by the following contributions:

  • NTC3 donated “Tar”;
  • Major Machines loaned a TLB to clear the areas, bring in top soil and lay the tar;
  • Mr Dave Baugh of Thistledown Farming loaned a tractor and trailer to cart the top soil;
  • Mr Wayne Kendall of Midlands Asphalt loaned a 4 ton roller for the taring; and
  • Messrs Des & Warren Kendall of Action Asphalt donated 45 cubes of additional ‘tar’.

Annual School Musical - 2010
A R5000 donation was made towards the costs of the annual school musical, which was Fiddler on the Roof.

School Desks
A number of classroom desks were refurbished by the Umngeni Institute.

Storage Facility – Sports Department

A 40ft container was donated and delivered to the school to be used as a sports equipment storeroom.  This was made possible by:

  • Everdon Estates who sponsored the 40ft container; and
  • Group 5 and Spie Capag who loaned a truck and crane to deliver the container.

The Howick High Past Pupils Association worked on a special project to build a deck off the front of the Dave Mayo Centre, overlooking the Rugby Fields. With the support of engineer, Mr Scott Taylor, who drew the plans free of charge, and the generous donation of all the timber by past pupil, Brendon Raw (Class of 1986) we were able to get bring the project to fruition. Funds raised at the Jason Hartman concert in 2009 were used to cover a major portion of the costs and we received numerous donations from past pupils and business organisations.
